Chery Bisa Dibeli di 40 Gerai Indomaret


PT Indomobil Prima Niaga(IPN) sebagai main dealer Chery, saat ini tengah menjajaki kerja sama dengan Indomaret untuk menjual mobil Chery di gerai-gerai Indomaret.

Untuk awalnya, program kerja sama baru dijalankan di 40 (empat puluh) gerai Indomaret. Herman Kartawidjaja, Operation Manager IPN, menyebutkan bahwa program kerja sama ini memang ditujukan secara khusus untuk menjangkau masyarakat yang berdomisili di daerah pinggiran Jakarta, seperti di Bekasi, Depok, dan Tangerang.

Customer yang membeli mobil Chery di gerai-gerai khusus Indomaret akan mendapatkan hadiah langsung berupa Indomaret Card yang bisa digunakan untuk berbelanja di gerai Indomaret senilai Rp 500,000.

Herman Kartawidjaja menam-bahkan bahwa tidak tertutup kemungkinan kerja sama ini akan diperluas dengan menambah jumlah gerai Indomaret yang akan menjual mobil Chery. Apabila respon customer ternyata positif,

Semprotan ethanol dongkrak oktan

Ford Motor Co. memperkenalkan teknologi baru yang bisa meningkatkan efisiensi mesin. Sistem baru yang disebut Direct Injection Octane Boost memiliki kemampuan meningkatkan efisiensi bahan bakar antara lima hingga 10 persen. Kerjanya dengan cara menyemprotkan ethanol ke ruang bakar sesaat sebelum penyemprotan bahan bakar dengan bensin biasa.
Ethanol yang disemprotkan itu akan meningkatkan nilai oktan bensin dari 88-91 RON menjadi 150. Ini karena ethanol memiliki nilai oktan yang sangat tinggi.

Sistem ini dikembangkan bersama oleh Ethanol Boosting System dengan Ford yang dipakai di mesin 5.0 liter Bobcat V8 hingga bisa memproduksi tenaga 500hp dan torsi lebih dari 1000Nm.
Keuntungan lain dari system injeksi ethanol adalah suhu operasi yang lebih rendah karena pendinginan yang diberikan bahan bakar dari material organic serta rasio kompresi lebih tinggi.
Ethanol ditempatkan terpisah yang perlu di isi secara periodic. Pengisian hanya sedikit karena kebutuhan ethanol sangat sedikit


China's Chery raises $425 mln in share placementmaker


SHANGHAI, June 3 (Reuters) -- Chery Automobile Co, China's largest indigenous car maker, said on Wednesday it has raised 2.9 billion yuan ($425 million) through share placement deals with several investors to help fund vehicle projects.

The investors included Bohai Industrial Investment Fund Management and Huarong Asset Management Corp, it said in a statement.

The move helped to diversify the state-owned automaker's shareholdering structure, it added, although it did not say how big a stake the investors received.


Proceeds will be invested in new-energy vehicle development, a heavy truck project and an auto plant, the statement said, citing Chery spokesman Jin Yibo.

The Wall Street Journal had reported earlier on Wednesday that Chery raised 2 billion yuan by selling a 20 percent stake to domestic private equity investors.

Several Chinese automakers, including Chery and SAIC Motor Corp, China's largest automaker and a partner of General Motors Corp and Volkswagen AG, are keen to develop their own automobile models, especially for larger, more profitable cars, and to move into overseas markets.

Chery earlier this year unveiled its mid- to high-end Riich G6 sedan that aims to take on more established rivals such as Toyota Motor in that lucrative market segment.

China's home-grown automakers primarily produce small cars, which have recently enjoyed strong sales growth as Beijing implemented tax incentives for compact cars and rebates to rural buyers to bolster domestic demand.

While the global industry struggles with a severe downturn, China's car market, now the world's largest, has rebounded and posted record sales in recent months.

Chery said last month that it may boost its annual car sales target by 50 percent if the market recovery proves sustainable. ($1=6.829 Yuan)


Japanese brands rank highest in J.D. Power's China Initial Quality Study

Shanghai — Japanese vehicle models occupy the top ranking position in five of six new-vehicle segments in the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2008 China Initial Quality Study (IQS). The study also includes automotive brands from China, France, Germany, Korea and the United States. FAW-Toyota and Guangzhou Honda each garner two vehicle segment awards, while FAW-Volkswagen and Dongfeng Nissan each rank highest in one vehicle segment.

The highest ranking vehicles by segment in 2008 are:

• Entry Midsize Segment: Honda Fit

• Midsize Segment: Toyota Corolla EX

• Premium Midsize Segment: Volkswagen Sagitar

• Upper Premium Midsize Segment: Nissan Teana

• Luxury Segment: Toyota Crown

• MPV Segment: Honda Odyssey

The China IQS, now in its ninth year, captures problems experienced by new-vehicle owners within the first two to six months of ownership. Vehicle problems are examined in two distinct categories—quality of design and quality of production (defects and malfunctions)—and across eight factors: vehicle exterior; driving experience; features, controls and displays; audio, entertainment and navigation; seats; heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC); vehicle interior; and engine and transmission. Overall performance is determined by problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with lower scores indicating a lower rate of problem incidences and higher quality.

Industry Findings

The China IQS finds that initial vehicle quality in China averages 207 PP100, marking a 5 PP100 increase from 2007. In addition, 12 percent of owners report experiencing more problems than expected in 2008, an increase of 2.6 percentage points from 2007.

The study also finds that levels of initial quality are closely tied to changes in vehicle prices in 2008. In particular, for those vehicle segments in which average prices increased by more than 8 percent from 2007, initial quality has improved in 2008. Conversely, in segments where vehicle prices have declined by approximately 8 percent or more, initial quality has also declined.

"Efforts to improve vehicle quality may be hindered by simultaneous efforts to reduce costs," said Dr Mei Songlin, general manager of research at J.D. Power Asia Pacific China operations. "When manufacturers are forced to offer lower prices in an effort to remain competitive, they may be using less expensive and reliable components.

The study finds that increasing levels of consumer knowledge have also had an impact on initial quality." Car owners in China have become more discerning and have higher expectations of the car ownership experience than in the past," said Mei. "In particular, owners notice and report more problems, including the minor ones, which leads to increased problem counts."

New-vehicle owners in China most frequently report problems with their engine and transmission, followed by the driving experience and vehicle exterior.

Excessive fuel consumption remains the most frequently mentioned problem. Vehicle shoppers cite poor fuel economy as the top reason for rejecting a vehicle model, while good fuel efficiency has emerged as a top reason to purchase a particular model.

"When fuel prices rose to new levels between April and August 2008, owners became more sensitive to fuel consumption, particularly those who own family cars within the premium compact and various midsize vehicle segments," said Mei. "During the sales process, dealers can help alleviate customer anxiety about fuel efficiency by adequately explaining a model's fuel efficiency ratings and how to operate a vehicle to obtain the greatest fuel economy."

The study also finds that the number of quality problems experienced has a direct impact on customer advocacy and loyalty. Among customers who report no or one problems, 31 percent say they definitely would recommend their model to others and one percent say they definitely would not recommend their model. Among customers who experience two or more problems, recommendation rates decline to 24 percent and no intent on recommendation increases to 5 percent.

"The 2008 China IQS reveals three important insights into auto owners in the China market," said Michael Dunne, managing director, J.D. Power Asia Pacific China operations. "First, fuel economy matters more than ever among these consumers. Second, Honda, Nissan and Toyota models consistently perform well among Chinese consumers. Finally, new-vehicle buyers in China—even first-time owners—are better informed than ever before and have rapidly increasing expectations regarding vehicle quality."

The 2008 China Initial Quality Study is based on evaluations from 10,719 owners who purchased a new vehicle between October 2007 and June 2008. The study includes 102 vehicle models among 43 different makes. The study was fielded from April to August 2008 in 26 major cities across China.( Automotive News China )



Nissan to produce VQ engine in China


GUANGZHOU -- Nissan Motor Co. will start producing one of its best engines, the VQ, in China later this year to supply its Teana sedans assembled by Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co., an executive from Dongfeng Nissan has confirmed.

Ren Yong, deputy general manager of Dongfeng Nissan, says local production of the VQ engine in China has been decided and will start within this year.

"Preparations [for the local production] are underway," Ren said in a seminar in Guangzhou's Huadu District last week.

Nissan's VQ engine is widely considered one of the best V-6 engines in the world for its smoothness and high power output. Teana sedans built by Dongfeng Nissan are available with 2.5- and 3.5-liter VQ engine versions. These engines are currently all imported from Japan.


Ren says the first batch of VQ engines to be built by Dongfeng Nissan will be 2.5 liters in capacity. He did not give further details about planned production.

Industry sources told Automotive News China in late 2007 that Nissan was planning to build the best engines in China, although Nissan declined to confirm this.

Production was originally scheduled to start in July 2008, but was postponed to 2009 for unknown reasons, according to a source from Dongfeng Nissan.

The source says output of the VQ engines will depend on the sales of the Teana. Dongfeng Nissan sold 8000 to 9000 Teanas each month in the past several months.

Dongfeng Nissan is a joint venture of Nissan and Dongfeng Motor Group. The company produces seven Nissan models in its Guangzhou and Xiangfan plants. Among them, only the Teana carries imported engines.

Dongfeng Nissan's engine plant started production in 2006. The plant now produces three engines; the 1.6-liter HR engine as well as the 1.8- and 2.0-liter MR engines, according to Nissan China.

Meanwhile, Ren also confirms Dongfeng Nissan will produce its March small car model. The new model may hit the market next year.

An adverse side effect to the government's stimulus of the auto industry


SHANGHAI -- Although it has succeeded in reversing the sales slump of late 2008, China's stimulus of its car industry has also hindered much needed consolidation in a highly fragmented domestic sector.

That is a side effect the government did not intend when it enacted its policies earlier this year.

In the corporate world, mergers and acquisitions do not take place until targeted companies face grave threats to their survival.

A case in point is Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp.'s acquisition of Nanjing Automobile (Group) Corp. in late 2007.


In 2005 Nanjing Auto borrowed heavily from domestic banks to fund its purchase of the British brand MG. But it then had a tough time marketing the brand inside China.

The best option for Nanjing Auto was to let itself be merged into SAIC as the latter had also bought assets from MG Rover.

Nanjing Auto dodged the option initially. But it was later forced to accept because of a mounting debt burden resulting from its acquisition of MG.

Another example has been the alliance struck this month between Fiat S.p.A. and Chrysler LLC. Had it not been for the unbearable financial pressure Chrysler was under, such a deal would never have happened.

In late 2008, the steep downturn of the auto market in and outside China posed grave threats for quite a number of domestic Chinese automakers and thereby paved the way for a wave of consolidation in the industry.

Chery Automobile Co., for one, was last year facing cash flow disruption. Another company from Anhui province, Jianghuai Automobile Co. (JAC), also had difficulty financing its newly started passenger vehicle business.

Market forces were pushing the two companies towards a merger. But now that opportunity is gone.

Thanks to January's halving of purchase tax cut on cars with small engines, almost all automakers in China, whether strong or weak, have reported robust sales growth in the past few months.

Chery is back in expansion mode. It raised 2.9 billion yuan ($424.6 millon) earlier this month for a new energy vehicle program, heavy duty projects and also a new car plant.

Meanwhile, amid market speculations about its sale to Chery, JAC stated last week it has no plan to merge with Chery.

In March, the central government drafted a blueprint for the restructuring of the domestic auto industry. According to the plan, the government envisaged a domestic auto industry consolidated into seven passenger vehicle makers by 2011, down from 13 today.

But stimulus policies have now given a second wind to once-beleagured domestic automarkers. The chances of realizing this target are therefore looking slim.

Mazda Menjadi Dewa Penyelamat......

Mazda Motor Corp. menjadi dewa
penyelamat bagi dealer-dealer GM dan Chrysler
yang di 'PHK' sebagai bagian dari restrukturisasi
kedua perusahaan itu setelah mengajukan
perlindungan bangkrut. Mazda berminat untuk
memperpanjang umur dealer-dealer tertentu dan
mengubahnya menjadi dealer Mazda karena lokasi

President Philip Spender mengungkapkan mereka

China Melarang Mobil Renault

Renault Laguna, Scenic, Megane dan Megane
Coupe-Cabriolet didisain oleh Renault, diproduksi
pabrik-pabrik Renault di Prancis dan mendapat
bintang lima dari uji tabrak European NCAP. Dengan
reputasi seperti itu, sungguh jadi pertanyaan mengapa
empat model ini dilarang di China.
China's General
Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and
Quarantine melarang model-model itu dipasarkan di China
karena "resiko-resiko keselamatan yang serius" dan "tidak
mematuhi regulasi teknis". Lembaga itu tidak menjelaskan
secara spesifik masalah yang yang sebenarnya membuat
Renault terlarang di China. Mereka cuma mengatakan
bahwa Renault "beberapa kali mengungkapkan problem-
problem kualitas" dan mendesak perusahaan itu
melakukan pemeriksaan menyeluruh terhadap aspek
teknik dan keselamatan pada produksi Renault yang
dipasarkan di China. Renault menjual ribuan mobil di
China. Ke empat model itu merupakan model-model
terpenting yang punya reputasi bagus di Eropa. China
sendiri saat ini cukup serius mengawasi faktor
keselamatan mobil-mobil yang diproduksi di negara itu.
Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, perintah recall sering
diterbitkan.

Ferrari Naik 10%.

Kendati pasar otomotif secara umum lesu,
permintaan mobil sport Ferrari tahun ini
diperkirakan tumbuh sekitar 10% dibandingkan
dengan tahun lalu. Presiden Direktur PT CLO, Irmawan
Poedjoadi, mengatakan meski memiliki pangsa pasar
terbatas, minat masyarakat Indonesia terhadap mobil
Ferrari saat ini tetap besar. Jika sebelumnya hanya
didominasi oleh generasi tua, saat ini kalangan muda
dengan kemampuan finansial yang cukup baik juga
banyak mengincar mobil berlambang kuda jingkrak ini.
"Kalau dulu aki-aki, sekarang anak muda [pengusaha
muda] juga sanggup memiliki Ferrari. Terlebih lagi banyak
fasilitas finansial dari institusi keuangan yang
memudahkan mereka mewujudkan impian," katanya di
sela-sela peluncuran model terbaru, Ferrari California,
akhir pekan lalu. Sepanjang 2008, CLO mencatat
penjualan mobil Ferrari di pasar domestik sebanyak 20
unit. Pertumbuhan rata-rata penjualan mobil sport
premium asal Italia di Tanah Air sekitar 10% per tahun.
Untuk konsumen di Indonesia, prinsipal Ferrari tahun ini
memberi kuota delapan unit Ferrari California, yang
merupakan model terbarunya yang pertama kali
diperkenalkan pada Frankfurt Motor Show 2008. Secara
resmi, CLO memperkenalkan Ferrari California pada Jumat
pekan lalu. Namun, mobil yang dibanderol di kisaran Rp4
miliar-Rp5 miliar ini telah dipesan sebanyak 14 unit.
Distributor tunggal mobil Ferrari di Indonesia ini baru bisa
mengirim delapan unit ke konsumen tahun ini karena
kuota dari prinsipal yang terbatas. "Harganya akan kami
umumkan secara resmi pada pekan ini. Kami masih
menghitung beban pajak dan bea masuk, tapi
diperkirakan US$400.000-US$500.000 per unit." Dengan
kapasitas produksi di pabrik Maranello 6.500 unit per
tahun, lama waktu tunggu untuk Ferrari California saat ini
berkisar 0,5 tahun hingga 1 tahun.
